Joining the rest of the world, various State level bodies observed International Women's Day at different locations across the State today.
All Manipur Women Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) observed the day on the theme, 'Let us carry the struggle forward' at GM Hall.
Irabot Foundation Manipur president Th Iboyaima, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president L Memchoubi and AMAWOVA president S Chaobi graced the function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the function attended by representatives of various social organisations and womenfolk, MU Assistant Professor Chinglen Maisnam stressed on the need to give proper education to women in order to empower them.
The Jiri branch of AMAWOVA also observed International Women's Day at Jiri town hall, reports our Jiribam correspondent.
Jiri College lecturer Ch Randhoni, AMAWOVA Jiri branch president Y Umabati and Apunba Jiri Meira Paibi president Th Thoinu graced the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In a function organised at Senapati district mini auditorium, Women Committee of United NGOs Mission demanded the State and Central Government to announce the day as general holiday.
The programme attended by the representatives from Thoubal, Senapati, Imphal East, Imphal West, Chandel and Bishnupur was organised by Senapati district women committee of United NGOs Mission.
The programme decided to press the Government on various issues including complete implementation of Domestic Violence Act, withdrawal of AFSPA, proper implementation of policies of educating women, implementation of UN Resolution 1325 in India.
The programme also demanded to reserve 50 per cent seat for women in State Assembly and Village Authorities, institute a separate State High Court, start functioning of district Courts, especially in Senapati, Chandel and Tamenglong districts.
All Manipur Nupi Marup, Kanglei Chanura Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee, Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, Manipur Network of Positive People and Manipur State Commission for Women also observed the day.
