Window dressing for Imphal ahead of Patil's visit

Ahead of the scheduled visit of President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, Imphal is set to receive a full make-up and for this, all the areas excavated for Sewerage project would be filled up or covered.
The Indian President will arrive here in the afternoon of March 10 and leave Imphal the next day.
During her maiden visit to the State, the President will lay the foundation stone of the NIT at Lamphelpat.
She is also scheduled tp lay foundation stones for an Information Technology Park at Mantripukhri before launching the State Data Centre and SWAN project.
As the President itineraries include visiting Lamphelpat and Mantripukhri besides halting for a night at Raj Bhavan, all the surrounding areas and roads leading to Lamphelpat and Mantripukhri would be given a face-lift even if it is a temporary measure.
For these beautification works, Government officials led by Chief Engineers of PWD and PHED conducted field inspections of the areas where Pratibha Devi Singh Patil would be visiting.

The team of engineers inspected the eastern side of Raj Bhavan, the entry point to Jail Road and the MG Avenue junction where excavation works are going on for different purposes.
They also inspected the road leading to Lamphelpat from Uripok and from Lamphelpat to Mantripukhri.
It is reported that all the mounds of earth piled up at the excavation sites would be removed to make these areas plain and smooth for security reasons and also to give Imphal a face-lift.
If the situation demands, all the dug out portions would be filled up regardless of whether the works have been completed or not.
It is also reported that repairing work would be initiated on a war-footing on all the roads where the President is set to traverse.
President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil will arrive here in a special Indian Airforce aircraft at 4 pm of March 10 .
From the airport, she will proceed to the Raj Bhavan where a meeting with the Governor and the Chief Minister is scheduled.
On March 11, she will interact with Chairpersons of the State Social Welfare Board and Manipur Women Development Corporation and some selected Self Help Groups.
She will leave Imphal at 1.40 pm after laying foundation stones at Lamphelpat and Mantripukhri.
