This book features 44 poems which were written during the period from 1989 to 1997. Sri Biren has to his credit 4 books of poetry, 2 books of short story and one book of short play. In the year 1989 his poetry book Mapal Naidabasida Ei was brought out and he has picked up the themes of his poetry from transcendental philosophy ever since. The same title Mapal Naidabasida Ei would be suitable for this latest book. The poet travels the journey of life which is endless. He does not know where did he reach. So he asks himself in Eigi Mai-on, personal poem: 'How far do I approach/ Do I pass half/ Of the journey that I go?' At the end of the poem the poet expresses the pang of sorrow what he felt today, "Why does the sun dwindle away?/ I'm short of breadth/ Feeling the blood pulsing/ I'm most upset/ On and on when I think of/ Mind is so disturbed." In another poem the poet moulds the image of boats and the sea. That is the poem Epak, Hi Amasung Ei, in which the poet feels seeing an ocean, a boat sails, full of passengers. The boat seems as if sinking. Except seeing, the poet could do nothing. So he writes, "And/ Having no means/ I witness on and on/ Until the boat sinks". Like Harivansh Rai Bachchan Sri Biren uses the symbol of wine I his piece Thak-Khini Yudi Ei. The bitter taste of wine is nothing but the hardship of life. The second stanza of the poem writes, "How could I wish/ I'll drink all the sweet liquids/ Will have delicious foods only?/ How could I discard/ That bitter tastes?" |
