A novel in Manipuri, translated from Sharatchandra Parinita by L Raghumani Sharma, Page 72. Reviewed by: Konsam Kulladhwaja |
This book reflects the ideal of the heroine named Lalita. Lalita while she was very young and playing dolls wreathed a young boy called Shekhar with garland in the form of marriage. Shekhar, too accepts the informal marriage. Later on Shekhar follows his father's desire to marry another woman by discarding his first playful marriage. On the other hand Girindra, a young man who is financially helpful to Lalita's family proposes to marry Lalita. But Lalita denies the proposal saying that she is a married woman. Lalita's consistency is morality is the central theme of the book. Though there was some weakness in the use of Manipuri language in the first edition, Raghumani polishes and improves a lot in the later edition.”. |
