A collection of English poems written by A Sophia Chanu, Published by Writers Forum, Ranchi in 2000, Price Rs 60/-, Page 58. Reviewed by: Konsam Kulladhwaja |
Arambam Sophia Chanu, niece of late A Samarendra (noted playwright) comes out as a poet with promise. In her debut she could achieve her own niche in the Manipuri writing in English poetry. Other than R K Madhubir, Robin S Ngangom, Gouro Thongamcha there's hardly any poet writing in English though we have found some young maiden poets like Binalakshmi Nepram. On the other hand translators like B S Rajkumar orientate the work of translating Manipuri poetry into English with a purpose of exposition. All the intense feelings of Sophia overflow from her heart and rush to this book Feelings. At the very outset Feelings, the name of a poem is highlighted. Feelings are difficult to define or analyze, writes the poem. Sometimes feelings of a poet are very intense like a hurricane or typhoon which could uproot the existence and make a new universe. What an amazing idea is conceived by Sophia, see the last lines of the poem, |
