The Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative and Praja Foundation launched a White Paper on Crime Mapping Study in Delhi on 15 December, 2015 at Press Club of India, New Delhi.
The White paper has analysed the information provided by the Delhi Police under the Right to Information Act and has mapped 161 police stations under all the 11 districts and looked into the following namely:
0 Which are major crimes against women?
0 What is the number of cases disposed by Police and Courts?
0 What is the shortfall in Police Personnel?
0 What is the number of complaints against Police Personnel?
0 Are the MPs active in raising issues in the parliament?
While the Delhi Police does their own crime mapping, this white paper is a first of its kind independent study by an Non Government Organisation that is available in public domain such that every resident of Delhi is aware of the incidents of crime in Delhi and the manpower strength of the police station they are residing in. It will also help the elected representatives to ensure that policing is improved in their constituency and that their police strength accordingly is in proportion to the crime of that area.
Most importantly we hope this study will help the Delhi Police themselves to deploy manpower as per the crime rate and also push the Ministry of Home Affairs to increase manpower of the Delhi Police and take proactive steps to reduce crime in general and more specifically crime against women.
