Violence during cultural occasion is an attack against the culture
29th October 2011:
It is disheartening and most disturbing that some section of our society in trying to address genuine issues of indigenous communities often resort of inhuman act of violence in most dastardly manners such as bomb blasts during cultural occasions. The twin bomb blast at Alu Gali, Thangal Bazar, Imphal that went off in the night of 27th Oct at 9.30 pm when men, women and children were enjoying the festive occasion of Diwali is shocking our conscience.
The incident cannot be allowed to drift away from our short memory but authentically responded to. We earnestly appeal to the individual or group concerned related to this incident to abstain from such action in future.
Such action was not only an outright attack on the right to life of men, women and children, but will also be seen as a direct attack on other’s culture, we consider. The latter is a serious crime that may have far reaching consequences on the indigenous community and their culture.
We at PCTM pray for swift recovery of those injured in the blast and humbly appeal them also to work for restoring humanity in the society including those who blasted the bomb.
People who live in glass house must not throw stone to others and so people who have a distinct cultural tradition must not harm other culture. It is in appreciation of other culture one’s culture is advanced and the advance cultural civilization is the one which grooms up individuals ability to appreciate other culture.
People from advance cultural civilization with political and demographic advantage may want or try to impose their own culture on others by using many methods and strategies that are violent but choosing violent method to react is only to ensure losing one’s own culture.
We consider no people with distinct cultural tradition would want to lose it rather they may want to preserve that and pass down through generations. Not attacking other culture violently such as planting bomb blast on cultural occasions will help save one’s own cultural tradition and community.
We appeal and pray that such incident is not allowed to occur in future in the interests of indigenous culture and community.
