Students appearing for Class X Exam (HSLC Examination) at Imphal on 17 February 2015 :: Pix - Deepak Oinam

In this short period before commencing HSLC (Matric) and HS (PUs) examination I wish to give the precious 'ancestral talisman of exam' to my brothers and sisters in the state who are candidate for ten and ten plus two exam. It is so-called 'ancestral talisman of exam' because what I have to share had been passing down from older generations. Yet this is giving as a gift to this 2016 batch and generations to come. Using this talisman will truly help.

These examinations are the greatest step before stepping into the world in student's life. The peril is here on students life, so I wish to help little if anyhow through this write-up though I am not educationist nor highly educated and I myself not far from history of these two examination. Through my experience and over viewing our system I inked as follows:

(1) Prepare beforehand: It is best to prepare well before exam scheduled drew so near because it avoid many unwanted things in our mind like tension, anxiety, nervousness, pressure, etc. as we do not prepare well, these things pop up in our mind. Preparing far ahead means confidence, time to learn many new things, revising several time; improve memory power, less effort to put at the eleven hour.

(2) Seek the help of God: We should have faith in God and pray for help. Meditate to God before study; He is really there to help us. No human effort alone will bring glory and laurel: for it we need God's help. It is not praying to God alone gives success but together with our labour is key to success in everything we do.

(3) Support from other: The support of parents, teachers, guardian or near and dear ones and friends are quite very important as man is a social beings. Support morally, financially, or other physical and intellectual support are where students lean upon. It is the responsibility of parents to provide the needs of students. Encouraging and showing the scope of student will really help.

(4) Maintain good health: I should say 'health is marks' in exam because healthy, active mind and good memory preside in healthy body. Here I wish to stress little that I heard someone study till midnight just before or during examination. This system rather wash-away memory out of fatigue and haggar. It affect our normal thinking very much and speed of thinking or calculations are slower when we are deficit of sleep according to recent study.

In dieting, some eat very little or fast in examination; taking the view that full stomach wash out memory and make dozy. In fact, our brain required lots of energy from food especially proteins rich diet. How can our brain work long, proper and fully when fuel ( food) and rest is not there? It is best to seek medical check-up for any discomfort before examination. Even a small ailment can lead to trouble so precaution should be taken before examination. Indeed, we need to study hard, refresh from time to time, eat in healthy manner and take care upon our health.

(5) Think you can do: The negative thoughts should not bring to ourself. When we have the mind that we will never be successful in exam, we tend to neglect and may lead to failure. One should not think or say that previous questions was tough and so forth. Rather think and talk about passing with your effort and best to think and do by yourself without unfair means.

(6) Know the purpose of examination: The purpose of conducting examination is to test the knowledge of students that they have acquired in the course and questions are set in such a way that majority will pass. The purpose of exam is not to pick out geniuses or to terrified the students with twisted and improbable question. The real purpose is to test and obtain the proof what students have learnt in the given syllabus of the year. There is nothing to fear about exam when one know the purpose of examination.

(7) Know the rules: It is important to know how it will be, what it will be. For instance, knowing when the exam will starts and ends, we need to know the required materials like admit card, pens, rulers, pencil or whatever may be necessary according to subject. Sometime it is heard that some students study the subject which will not come on that particular day, it should be avoided by checking routine properly.

One should know where to sit and strictly follow exam code and discipline. One must know the limited time and time management is very important. I heard several time in school as well as in broad and council exam that someone had time deficiency and leave out many marks. All this rules and regulations can lead to trouble if one is not well informed, especially during matriculation.

(8) Read the question properly: During preparation, one must read questions properly and understand well. Sometime it is say that the Manipur Board and Council exam question setter are quite tricky in setting easy questions into 'twisted difficult questions' . Even just before actually writing the answers in exam, it is a must to read question properly and grasped the question. Every year several students fail because they did not answered what the questions asked or misunderstood the questions. And it is good to read through all the written answers if time permits.

In above points, I just throw the ideas from here and there. Going little deeper, I wish to throw a few questions; What is the objective of passing exam? Are you prepared to pass without unfair means? Is the education quality and system of our state fit for competing the world?

Is the government preparing your way after you have fairly pass 10 and 10+2? What are the aims and objectives of individuals student when you are educated to your society, nation and mankind. It is must to pondered upon our youngers and children for bright future since tomorrow's seed is here today in our palm.

In conclusion, there are many tips and tactics to be successful in exam, but this are basic and vital for exam preparation guidelines. Each and every candidates (students) must cultivate and motivated in mind that objectives of passing examination is not limited only to get admission in reputed colleges or to get job; but to create job, to work for the betterment of family, society, nation and at large for the humanity.

The taste of passing without unfair means is much sweeter to reminisce once you really know the value of education, though percentage maybe less. It is the quality matter in today's world not the quantity; unless the system is corrupted.

Lastly, the key to success or to failure is in your hand. If past had defeat you; now arise strong soldiers, the sword is given to you —the best ever life-battle to fought for a month. Let's get what you deserved for hard work and share joy with parents, near and dear ones also bring glory to institution and inspiration to millions who follow our footstep.

Wishing best of Luck to all!

"May be unheeding as sky, dead as rock; still believe in success because heaven is listening."
