Soyam Chinglemba Singh has won the only Gold medal from the Manipur Team in the 32nd National Senior Taekwondo Championship 2013 & 6th National Senior Taekwondo Poomsae Championship 2013 in poomsae category held from 20th to 22nd Sep 2013 at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.
He started Taekwondo from the year 2000 under the close eyes of T Raju Singh & H Romenjit Singh at Creative Taekwondo Institute. He has won a total of 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze in state level championships and 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze in national level championships.
He completed his schooling (from nursery to 10th) from St. Joseph's School and intermediate from Herbert School. Besides Taekwondo, he has many other skills like software programming, multimedia works, playing musical instruments. He has keen interest in rock musics. He is also a drummer of a local rock band named "DARK DISTORTION".
After his intermediate, he has been serving in Indian Air Force. Now, he is posted in Pathankot, Punjab.By wining this gold medal, he would have got a line of promotion in his service if he represented the Services Team (the Defense team) in the national.
While he was preparing for the national with the Army Taekwondo Team in Bangalore, the Secretary of the Services Sports Control Board refused to let him represent the Services Team in poomsae category. This gave him a challenging will power to practice very hard to let him bring a gold medal. By then, he took part in the trial selection for Manipur Team. He represented Manipur in two categories- individual and mixed pair, in the national.
Chinglemba came out to be the one and only gold medallist from the Manipur team in the 2013 national championship recently held in Imphal.
