Some Chase Goal Some Hunt Goal

Olivia Gurumayum *

When we were young one of the most common questions people asked is “what is your aim in life?” Every child happily answers to the question.

Who doesn’t have goal? Who doesn’t have aim? Who doesn’t want to achieve it?

There is nothing called big goal or small goal; every goal we set is a goal we want to pursue. Until we keep striving for it, one cannot achieve it.

As we all know it is important to set goal, strive it and achieve it in order to occupy a place in the society and to contribute their skills and knowledge to the society. How many of us have achieved the aim that we answered when we were young?

The recent hurricane of unemployment seems to shake the journey of youth towards their goal. Many youths have started taking up business having lost trust in government jobs. In today’s scenario of high-rise unemployment, the goal is to fit ourselves in this planet by any means to survive.

With the increased in population the unemployment issue rises rapidly. It has become a global issue. There are different types of unemployment. However, the current unemployment issue is out of those types. We all know the opening of the government job is in a blurry situation.

Even if there’s opening the service always entangle with legal cases or other problems. Like the recent examinations conducted by MPSC and exams conducted by other departments. The examinations just closed right after the admit card of the examination issued or right before opening the question set in the exam hall.

Any aspirants who actually prepared whole-heartedly can prepare further until another notification issues. Those who gave the exam as a trial can prepare better. There were interviews conducted by many departments.

The candidates wasted their valuable time the whole day just to watch the result mingle in the air. Many well-qualified candidates are on the higher curve of the graph of unemployment. Never lose hope until another century for the same cycle repeats. This is yet another opportunity to improve and prepare better.

The problem is the decrease of age bar waiting for a government jobs. The cycle keeps repeating and the way out of it is still vague.

What could be the factor for this complex cycle? How did it start? Why are we unable to stop this vicious cycle? Is there or will there be anyone dare enough to take the initiative to jump out of it?

The answers to these questions seem to be more complex than the questions. There would be numerous factors of how this cycle happened. The most important question is from where and how we will stop this. The root cause of this complex cycle started within the society.

The solution to this problem is in the society itself. It is important to focus more on the education system that will be the best solution in the end and a long-term solution.

If we look into the positive side of high-rise unemployment, it is an era of talents and skills. It gives rise to the power of virtuosity of youths. Many hotels, restaurants, coffee shops etc. are opening in full swing. It is an opportunity to explore ones hidden talent and to test them of how far they can go with the inborn or an acquired skill.

Many new entrepreneurs are emerging and I am sure many more to come up. Let us look from another perspective. In this two three years, we have been hearing that Indian economy is the fastest growing economy projecting 7% with target of 8% in the near future. The headline goes “India will be the 5th largest economy globally in 2019, will overtake UK”.

Simultaneously, the unemployment rate just shatters down at the same speed with economy. Unemployment rate shoots up at 6% - the highest in four decades and spends 3% of its GDP on education.

How about Manipur? What is the contribution towards education and employment?

Isn’t it a questionable to the development of the state that many young people are not involving in state affairs and offices? Isn’t it a humiliation to the State that many productive and capable youths are being exploited to things that are not so productive and less contribution to the economy of the state?

Youngsters are known as the future pillar. So, aren’t they supposed to be in law making of the state? Has they become a threat to the National Security because they have so much exposure and access to high technologies? Aren’t they supposed to work 9 to 5 involving in planning and policy making of the state?

Is it the education system that is creating such nuisances? Aren’t the youngsters productive enough to involve in the development of the state? Are the youngster not qualified enough to hold any position to safeguard their state, the territory and the integrity of their motherland. Whom to blame for this unemployment crises?

The definition of one’s success is the achievement of one’s capability and ability to hit the bull’s eye of the goal. The time and energy spent by an individual to achieve that set goal should be awarded with what he or she deserve. Or is it the government not have enough fund to hire and paid for a job? Is it that the government offices have enough employees to work for? There is no doubt that many people, especially those parents who want a secure life for their children, might be asking the same question.

The goal splits into two - chased goal and hunted goal. Some chase the goal, many hunt the goal. There were times where people chase their goal giving full-fledged determination and with confidence. One’s achievement was counted with the fulfillment of the goal they set. The trend seems to be diverted with the number of unemployment increased. People started to hunt goal rather than chasing their desired dreams.

Goal itself is a challenge. Working hard to achieve it is even more challenging. The nightmare comes when faith has something else store for us. Then, there comes the twist of the tale – should we hunt for another goal or how about chasing the same goal? The hunting of goal begins.

The actual goals that need to chase are not worthy enough to fight for with the credentials they have earned. The current trend to achieve goal is to follow what majority follows. The goals that are supposed to chase are the ones that are inborn quality, the capability of an individual, the ability of an individual. The faith of many leads to hunting a goal.

The situation has become so alarming leading many youths wander around, many losing hope falling prey of many mental health issues. It has reached to a point where one does not have to have aim/goal in life. Some are experiencing the nightmares of not getting the reward they sweat out for. One cannot just pick a goal they want. It has to be job-oriented goal.

Only after much analysis of its long-term benefits one can decide of which path would be easier for an individual to reach a goal. A goal has to be set prior choosing the path. However, with the present situation, first, we need to take a survey of how many people following the same path. Then, follow it if the majority wins.

It is high time that we find a solid solution to it. It cannot change it in overnight but at least if we start right away to find ways to unlock the knots; it will eventually solve the issues.
