Solidarity to the movement against state repression in Manipur
11th July 2015
A protest at Delhi University on July 11 2015
North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) extends solidarity to the movement against state repression in Manipur! Joins march from Vijay Nagar to Vishwvidyalay metro station by students from Manipur!
Today a large number of students from Manipur took out a march from Vijay Nagar to Vishwvidyalay metro station in solidarity with the movement against state repression in Manipur. North East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) supported and participated in the march.
It is to be noted that police brutality on people was demonstrated when on Wednesday, 8th of July, a student was killed while demonstrating against the Government. The victim was a Class 11th student, who was fatally wounded when to scatter the protesters, the tear gas shell fired from close range hit him.
This incident is connected to other past incidents where peoples’ right to dissent has been gagged by the authorities and their democratic right to protest against the government, violated.
It should be noted that the people who were protesting were innocent school students of different educational institutions. It is shameful that police could not tolerate even a peaceful protest by students and shockingly tried to disperse the protesters using reprehensible means.
It is to be noted that a delegation of NEFIS also met the Resident Commissioner of Manipur and submitted a Memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Manipur on 9th July. NEFIS will continue to raise the issue, if the police personnel responsible is not immediately reprimanded.
Thanking You,
Chinglen Khumukcham,
Convener,
