Sarita Laishram donates INR 5000 for Manipur Flood Relief
Sarita Laishram, who is presently at Aurangabad, Maharashtra undergoing an intensive training for the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympic, donates INR 5000 for Manipur flood relief in support of Dynamic Manipur (DM) / Helping Hands Manipur (H2M) flood relief activities.
She says, "I wish I could be there to volunteer for Manipur Flood Relief. Hope that this small amount would help some of the flood affected families and their children with relief supplies. Thanks to the local, National and International organizations serving tirelessly for humanity services to those affected by worst ever flood in Manipur."
As on today, DM/H2M volunteers have handed over a water filter (AquaSure water filter) at a relief camp at Kakching Chumnag where five families are still taking shelter. Their houses were completely destroyed due to flood water last month. In another development, restoration effort of two local community ponds at Kakching is going on.
With this the total number of ponds treated under the good will project of restoration of several community ponds is now 20 which together will provide clean water of more than 230 equivalent ponds of the average pond size of 60 X 50 X 7 ft in length X width X depth. Two days ago DM/H2M volunteers have treated the largest pond of Thoubal at Tentha (Tentha Pukhri Achouba) which has the size of 800 X 182 X 10 ft, that is also water body for the local water supplies which is not working at the moment after the flood.
This goodwill project is possible to execute with the funds generously donated by Manipuri Diaspora such as San Francisco Bay Area Manipuri Community, Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC), Korea Manipuri Association (KMA) supported by Indians in Korea, North American Manipur Association (NAMA) and generous individuals from India and abroad. Total fund collected so far for this project is 3.2 lacs.
