HUGE VICTORY FOR NEFIS AS SANCTIONED AMOUNT OF POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP GETS RELEASED BY THE MANIPUR GOVT.
STUDENTS AND ACTIVISTS WERE STRUGGLING AGAINST THE MISAPPROPRIATION OF SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS!
In a recent development which can be termed as a huge victory for North East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) post matric scholarship has been released by the Manipur government.
It is to be noted that students and activists were struggling against the misappropriation of funds sanctioned for the SC and OBC students of Manipur.
Students from Delhi University, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Jamia Milia Islamia and Ambedkar University had protested under the banner of North East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) on January 22 and February 13 against the misappropriation of scholarship funds and had also submitted memorandum addressing Chief Minister, Manipur to resolve the problems of students as soon as possible.
These funds were released to enable higher education of SC and OBC youth in Manipur, but were not reaching the concerned community and the students were hence very agitated with the Manipur state authorities, who had withheld these funds released from central government since 2010-2011.
It is to be noted that the State government was surpassing its jurisdiction by withholding Central government funds. The said scholarship comes under the centrally sponsored scholarship scheme; the fund of which for the past and current year is being duly released by Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
This is the victory of the struggle of common students who came on streets for their rights. We would like that Manipur government makes proper mechanism so that the scholarship funds are disbursed timely.
Thanking You
