North East Indians are not Immigrants in India
February 4, 2015
North East Indians are not immigrants to Delhi or any other parts of India. Nor we are migrants. The word 'migrant' actually mean temporary immigrants. We use the word 'migrant' for migrant workers etc in case of Bangladesi workers.
In USA they use the word to denote the migrant Mexican workers. As such it is completely wrong and insult to the Northeast Indians for any political party to state that North East Indians are immigrants or migrants in India.
If any political party want to give protection to the North East Indians, they should state that 'The Northeast Indians will be given full protection as Indian citizens in all parts of India.'
About FASS:
Friends of Assam & Seven Sisters (FASS) is a non-profit non governmental organization, an international 'think-tank' which is aimed at providing an inspirational energy and a motivating force for overall revival and development of the North East India in all its spheres.
By the phrase 'Assam & Seven Sisters' we mean specifically the eight states of North East India: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura and Sikkim. During the British Raj and till after India's independence, all these states of the North East India except for Manipur, Tripura & Sikkim, were within the geographical boundary of the old state of Assam.
