Born in 1978, Shri Mayanglambam Sobhamam Singh of Singjamei Wangma Pebiya Pandit Leikai, Imphal, is a young and talented artiste in the field of Nata Pung, the indigenous percussion instrument used in Manipuri Nata Sankirtana performances.
Initiated into the art by Guru Th. Aram Singh and further trained in the field by his grandfather Guru Bhagyachandra Singh and Padmashree S. Thanil Singh, he stepped into the world of Nata Pung from a very early age and is now one of the talents to reckon with in the realm of Nata Sankirtana Pung.
An enthusiastic artiste with an academic inclination, Shri Sobhamani has also completed a Diploma course in Nata Sankirtana and a PG Diploma course in Nata Pung from JNMDA, Imphal.
His association with the institute and its well-known gurus has helped him not only in learning the subtle in tricacies of the art, but also in projecting himself as one of the leading Pung players among his contemporaries.
He has performed widely in almost all the major cities of the country in a plethora of national level festivals and major cultural events. He has also toured several countries abroad as a Pung player.
Back home, his performances have won appreciation from both the experts and the general audience.
A recipient of Junior Fellowship of Ministry of Culture, Govt, of India, he has also worked as assistant choreographer in dance drama productions of Tapasya, a local cultural organisation of which he currently serves as the president.
In recognition and in encouragement of his promising talents, Shri Mayanglambam Sobhamani Singh is conferred with Manipur State Kala Akademi Young Talent Award.
