MCPCR Suo Moto Case : Students Killing by Manipur Police on 8 July

Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights concerning the death and injury of students in Manipur policy firing on 8th July 2015
Greetings ! The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights express serious condemnation of the unfortunate incident of firing by Manipur Police which led to the demise of Mr. Sapam Robinhood, 16 years old, son of Sapam Ramesh Singh, resident of Keisamthong Thangjam Leirak studying at Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, Imphal. The police firing leading to death and injury of students is a clear cut case of violation of Child Rights, especially their “Right to Life and dignified survival, as guaranteed by the Constitution of India and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The Commission in an emergency meeting held at its official premises, also resolved to take up a Suo Moto Case on the unfortunate incident and has written to the Director General of Police, Government of Manipur to furnish details of the incident, the particulars of the personnel involved in the firing. The Commission also sought details of any action taken, including filing of criminal cases against those police personnel involved in the firing.
The MCPCR has also informed the National Commission on the Protection of Child Rights on the firing incident for necessary action.
