Islamic Cultural and Research Association released a book at Keikhu, in Imphal East District on April 5 2015
A book written by Mohd. Abdur Rahman, titled “Khangbada Kanaba,” a collection of 25 short articles based on Holy Quran and Hadith (traditions of the Prophet) was released at a simple function held at the residence of the author at Keikhu, in Imphal East District, on April 5, 2015.
The book-release function, organized by Islamic Cultural and Research Association (ICRA) in association with Writers’ Union, Manipur (WUM), was graced Secretary of Writers’ Union, Manipur Syed Muhamuddin Sheikh, writer MM Ahmed and Vice-President of ICRA Maulana Mubarak Ali as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively. Maulana Mubarak Ali released the book.
The function was attended by the members of ICRA and Writers’ Union, Manipur, besides many prominent Muslim writers and cultural activist of the state.
The author of the book Mohd. Abdur Rahman spoke about the book. He said that the book was published to make the Muslims in the state aware of some of the basic Islamic practices and traditions. He thanked ICRA for publishing the book.
The book deals with some of the fundamental Islamic teachings and practices. There are chapters on kalima (creed of Islam), azan (call for prayers), namaz (prayer) including eid and funeral prayers, farz (obligatory duties), shariat law, Islam and peace, Shia and Sunni, Muslim women and purdah, Jihad, etc.
Mohd. Abdur Rahman (78) is one of the most well-known Muslim literary figures in the state. He published his first work of poetry Thamoigi Khollao in 1980. His published works includes Pangalgi Khunung Esei (Edited with Kayamuddin Pukhrimayum, 1986, Pelle Taibang (poetry, 2000), Eraldubu Karino? (poetry, 2002), Sahir-Salima Luhongba (2004), Ngaklaba Punshi (2007) and Echel amasung Khonjel (poetry, 2011).
Mohd. Abdur Rahman also published numerous Islamic literatures, which included Roja (1986), Yusuf-Julekha (1987), Eid ani (1987),Muharram amasung Karbalagi lan (1992), Islam (1997), Dunya Akiratki Lourokpham (booklet, 1999), Khangpham thokpa farz khara (2000), Lankon (2003), Leiramle (booklet, 2006) and Khutwatul Wada (2009).
He has also over the years contributed numerous articles on the history, society and culture of the Manipuri Muslims in some of the reputed journals and edited books. He has also presented papers in seminars and conferences.
Mohd. Abdur Rahman has been associated with many literary bodies, namely Cultural Forum, Imphal, Liberty Publishing Association (served as President for many years), Islamic Cultural and Research Association (ICRA, founder President) and Writers Union, Manipur (founder member).
Acknowledging his literary contributions, Mohd. Abdur Rahman was conferred Sahitya Bhusan by the Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Imphal in 2003, Writer of the Year Award by the Naharol Sahitya Premi Samiti, Imphal in 2004 and Certificate of Honour for Dedication in the field of Literature by the State Central Library, Imphal in 2009.
He was also recently awarded Senior Citizen’s Award and ICRA Lifetime Achievement Award.
