International Women's Day observed at South Lousing Hill, Chingnungkhok
Manipur State Legal Services Authority(MASLSA) in collaboration with Folksy Triumph, Indigenous Perspectives(IP), Gender Development Initiative(GENDI) observed International Women’s Day at South Lousing Hill, Chingnungkhok.
The programme included a series of events including an ongoing Awareness programme, Poster Campaigns, Awareness Cycle rally, Music concert, activities for young children etc. 10 Women who have been working for the upliftment of the society in their own respective profession were also honoured.
Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Judge, High Court of Manipur & Executive Chairman,
MASLSA was the Chief Guest and Shri Yambem Laba, Former Member, Manipur Human Rights Commission and
Mr Guneshwar Sharma, Session Judge, Manipur East were the Guests of Honor.
Mr Basanta Wareppa, Human Rights Alert;
Ms Premlata Thokchom, Human Rights law Network and
Santa Khurai, All Manipur Nupi Manbi Association
spoke as Resource persons and dwell on Prevention of Domestic Violence Act 2005, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012, Gender Disparity in a traditional Structure, and the Institutional mechanisms to protect and uphold Women’ rights.
The services and activities of MASLSA was also clearly spelt out for the participants to enable more people to avail the services. An interaction was also facilitated by Ms Nandini Thockchom and the women of the adjoining villages like Happy land, Chana, Telou, Chingnungkhok voiced their grievances and follow up action shall be taken up by the MASLSA.
A pamphlet on the various laws and policies for women was also released and distributed to the participants. Mr Rewben Mashangwa, Eastern Doc and a young group Pebet also performed for the occasion.
