Good Morning Readers
Without a newspaper in front,
Morning tea tastes bitter.
Without a newspaper at hand,
Some can't even defecate.
Without a newspaper to glimpse,
Some deny the onset of noon even at 1.00 pm.
Without a newspaper to glance at,
Many feel the earth stops its rotation.
Hueiyen Lanpao celebrates its ‘Annual Day' today (November 1 2014). On this occasion, all members of the Editorial Team of Hueiyen Lanpao (English Edition) extend our good wishes and appreciation to all the esteemed readers and contributors around the globe.
As of now, Hueiyen Lanpao is the only Daily which has its English, Manipuri (in Bengali script), and Meitei Mayek editions.
Hueiyen Lanpao English Daily has completed six years of its service to the people as ‘the messenger of the masses'. Providing factual information without any prejudice and attaching priority on investigative reporting being its features, HL has been serving you all with utmost balance without any bias between friends and foes. Our mission is to inform and enlighten readers, besides acting as a bridge between the governed and the governors, as well as among the readers. In its short journey of a few years, the Daily has so far registered tremendous achievements with the support of our readers and contributors alike.
Besides refreshing the readers with day to day events around the world, the Daily has presented numerous investigative reports to enlighten the authority and also to deliver justice to the people of this democratic land.
In the course of its service, the HL could have unearthed numerous stories of public importance and presented to the readers for consumption. The stories could have put to task the authority to take up remedial steps for public welfare. In economic, political, social, cultural and educational aspects of the society, this Daily has made remarkable achievements in terms of serving the general people. But for the support of our readers as well as contributors, this Daily would not have been able to stand as it is today.
As ‘your support is our strength', HL still solicits cooperation, contribution and support of our readers in its successful journey.
Importance of Media is growing day by day, with the society becoming increasingly complex every minute. Other than Roti-Kapara-Makaan, information has today become the fourth basic necessity of mankind.
Likewise, media is the fourth basic requirement of modern democracy other than Legislature, Executive and Judiciary. Citizens take part in governance in modern democracy by electing their representatives for a certain period. It is the ardent requirement of a representative democracy that its people are well conversed with what their representatives are doing.
Those in government also need to know what their people want to do. An independent media serves both the purposes – to inform the people of what the government is doing and to report to the government what its people react and wish. In the same way, media acts as a bridge between the public and the various organizations/groups.
Without media, the distance between the governed and the governors, as well as among the peoples themselves, will become too wide to bring in smooth governance. Media unites people around the globe. The world has been reduced to a small village by means of various channels of communication. Barring differences of language, culture, race and nationalities, people everywhere can share and react to any eventuality happening in the nook and corner of the earth in no time.
Media today is also keeping a strong vigil on the misdeeds, commissions and omissions of individuals, organizations and governments everywhere. A number of scandals and scams cannot escape the eyes of the media. The power of media has become so strong that it can nurture, overthrow and correct various regimes around the world.
On the other hand, increasing importance of media has invited pressures and threats from various circles. As many groups feel the inevitable role of media in accomplishing their works, they try to win the media to their sides. Hence, at times various organizations develop scuffles with the media on various occasions. Media persons or organizations are destined to face the wraths of numerous groups for no fault of theirs. However, the spirit and missionary zeal inherent in the Media could withstand all challenges sprung up in a democratic society.
Once again, the HL Editorial team greets you all for a bright and enlightened future.
