FIVE KILLED IN FOUR SEPARATE ACCIDENTS
My job takes me to lots of places. Now I am at the
nation's capital, Delhi, and being put up at a guest
house in Chitaranjan Park.
Time was 11PM. I went out to give a call home. (yes,
in India we stil wait for 11PM to call up at quarter
rate).
Very near to the call booth is a small make shift sort
of shop which sells chai and chaat and stuffs like
that. I was there just a moment before coming to the
call booth. As I stand happily talking over the phone,
I hear a loud bang. Coming from a place like Imphal
where louds bangs are usually interpreted as gun shots
(that coupled with the fact that I am in Delhi, another
militant attack prone area), I sort of ducked. That
was an involuntary reaction from my body.
As I turned, I see that a minivan (people refer to
them as RTVs) has slammed into the chai shop.
Everybody just froze momentarily. And taking the cue,
the two people in front of the van ran away. After
causing hindrance to other people's life, now they
seem to be fearing for their own lives.
When we moved closer, three people had been mowed down
by the speeding van. Later, I was informed that one
was killed on the spot and the other 2 is hurt badly.
Those were just there a moment ago. Standing hale and
hearty.
And it all amounted to a small news piece in page 3
the next day - "Five killed in four separate
accidents".
How cruel fate could be meted out at times?
This scared me no limit.
