3-day Festival of Dance and Music 'Nata Sankirtana' on 28 September, 2021 at JNMDA, Imphal
The 3-Day Festival of Dance and Music “Nata-Sankirtana” was kicked off from today at the Mandap of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal. The festival is the annual features of the Academy’s activities.
Shri Oinam Lukhoi Singh, Minister for Agriculture, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry & Tourism; Shri Dilip Mayengbam National Awardee, Former Director, JNMDA, Imphal; Shri S. Thanil Singh, Padmashree, Retd. Pradhan Guru, JNMDA, Imphal and Shri P. Bilash Singh, Director In-charge of the Academy graced the inaugural function of the Nata- Sankirtana festival as chief guest, guest of honours and president respectively.
While addressing the gathering, Shri Oinam Lukhoi Singh told that Manipur is known to India and the world as well in connection with our rich culture and traditions inherited from our forefathers and sports. We have to protect and promote the same for the future generations too. The government is monitoring for income generation and employment generation for the unemployed youths and taking up many schemes including ‘start up’, the minister added. He assured that he will talk to chief minister and consult for the development/ betterment of Nata Sankirtana.
Artistes from different organizations of Nata Sankirtana, students of JNMDA, Imphal, gurus and many eminent personalities were attended the occasion.
As part of the today’s first day festival programme, students of JNMDA, Imphal presented Nata Sankirtana (Sheihou) and artiste of Prachaya Nata Sankirtana Samaj, Khurai Thangjam Leikai, Imphal presented Nata Sankirtana (Sheisin).
It may be mentioned that Nata sankirtana is a hymn in of lord Krishna in classical Ragas synthesizing various indigenous rhythms. The Sankirtana follows an extremely strict code in its performance with rhythms pattern as well as costumes determined by specific rules and regulation. It is performed to mark important occasions during a person’s life, from birth to death. Manipur Nata Sankirtana has been recognized by the UNESCO in 2013.
On the second day, artiste of Public Theatre Artiste Association, Phoijing, Nambol will perform Nata Sankirtana ( Sheihou) and artiste of Indra Kala Bhavan, Moirang Thoya Leikai, Moirang will perform Nata Sankirtana (Sheisin).
On the concluding day, artiste of the Nata Sangeet Academy and Research Centre, Yaiskul Janmasthan, Imphal will present Nata Sankirtana (Sheihou) and artiste of Guru Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy, Kwakeithel Nganappithong, Imphal will present Nata Sankirtana ( Sheisin). (DIPR)
