CFTRI Director Prof. Ram Rajasekharan , in his address this morning at the Dakshin Baharat Mahila Krishi Jagriti Karyashala- Empowering women farmers with CSIR-CFTRI Technologies organized at IFTTC auditorium of centre food and technological research Institute (CFTRI) in the city said that the CFTRI would soon set up a sugarcane juice packaging marketing facility at Mandya.
He informed the gathering that CFTRI would teach farmers on adding nutritional inputs to sugarcane juice and introduce them to potential markets. He said that this initiative indented to augment farmers’ income would you go a long way is prevent ting suicides among farmers.
Prof. Ram Rajasekharan said this programme is also an attempt to promote all food processing facilities and and support systems available at industrial hubs; at the farm-gate level.

Indira Oinam, a social entrepreneur and founder secretary of Manipur – based Women’s Income Generation Centre, who was the Chief Guest for the event, said that food technology plays a vital role in revenue generation and augmentation of individual incomes.
Indira Oinam called upon the participants to makes best use of the opportunity to learn about the sugarcane preservation, paper-making, jam preparation and packaging of various cereals and thus augment their income.
Latter, she released a souvenir titled ‘Rural Development Activities’.

Stressing on the role of women farmers in tackling the agrarian crises, Shanthakumar called upon the farming of community to also make up dairy farming and other agrarian activities to boost their income.
Referring to China where farmers are provided interest – free loans with several schemes exclusively for women, he called for a similar initiative in our country. He also called for the involvement of women self- help groups in educating the farming community on food processing and Karnataka Cane Grower ’ Association president of India Sugarcane farmers’ Association (ISFA) President Kurubur Shanthakumar, who has the guest honour, said that farmers who form the backbone of the country were now facing grave crisis.
Stating that nearly 300 farmers have ended there live in across the State over past two months, Shanthakumar urged the government to initiate immediate measures for saving the farming community. Providing comprehensive skill sets for food processing and marketing.
Dr. Renu Agarawal , Rural development co-operator CSIR- CFTRI ,welcomed. Lashmi Devi, ISFA – Women wing president of other were present .The programme featured video presentation on women empowerment.
Over 200 delegates from South India are taking part this day-long programme, which also features interactions on marketing and micro-financing of agri products.

Women farmers get a glimpse of food technologies
CFTRI complimented for helping farmers sustain their income
Women farmers from the south Eastern state, on Wednesday , got a glimpse of the food technologies developed by the CSIR – Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) that can be adopted for realising sustainable earning. Scientists at the premier institute demonstration various processing technologies- sugarcane juice prevention, papad making, jam preparation, and packaging of cereals during the farmers’ tour of campus. More than 150 women farmers with had participated in the Dakshin Bharat Mahila Krishi Jagrithi Karyashala- Empowering women farmers with CSIR-CFTRI technologies – here on Wednesday 19th of August 2015.
Indira oinam, a social entrepreneur from Manipur and founder secretary of the women Income generation centre, inaugurated the programme. In her address, she said the CFTRI should come up with programmes for empowering women from north eastern states.
State Sugarcane Growers’ President Kurubur Shanthkumar complemented the CFTRI for developing technologies that help sustain farmers’ income. He suggested that the Government introduce a scheme to provide loads at lower interest rate to encourage the farmers, similar to the one in China .
CSIR-CFTRI direction Ram Rajashekaran presided and spoke about the upcoming initiatives and importance of food security and nutrition. ISFA women’s wing president Lakshmidevi spoke.
Renu Agarwal, coordinator, Rural development activities and Chief and Chief scientist , CSIR- CFTRTI, welcomed and M.N Shashirekha, convener, Rural Development Activities spoke about the workshop.
Later, had an interactive session with various government and semi-government agencies rendering specific information on finance and regulatory aspects among others.
