Appeal to all peace loving Inriangluang villagers to reject violence
23rd March 2015:
"… reiterate the necessity of resolving disagreements peacefully through dialogue and in a democratic spirit … appeal to all the beloved peace loving Inriangluang villagers to reject violence in all its forms and all acts of retaliation…"
The Inriangluang (Tamenglong) Chabuan Phuam (ICP) expresses serious concern over the spiral buildup creating for direct and violent confrontation within and among the Inriangluang Villagers of two conflicting parties - Tamenglong Village Authority and Tamenglong Village Council.
We are also deeply concerned on aggressive seizing of fields and plots of land, kitchen gardens by few individuals taking advantage of the conflicting situation, thereby adding to the already very explosive and highly charged situation in the village.
ICP strongly urges both parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid the path of escalating violence, whose victims are all but co-relatives in one way or other and are ordinary and innocent peace loving villagers.
We reiterate the necessity of resolving disagreements peacefully through dialogue and in a democratic spirit and do everything to return to the situation where wisdom of our forefathers prevails to resolve any differences peacefully and in a very amicable way. We also appeal to all the beloved peace loving Inriangluang villagers to reject violence in all its forms and all acts of retaliation.
Further we urge both the groups to respect the desires and wishes of the villagers which have been strongly and consistently expressed in various forms from time to time including continuous prayer programs, appeals and historic mass peace rally taken out on 14th January 2014 where hundreds of villagers, old and young, women and children, youth and from all walk of lives participated demanding for peaceful resolution of the village disagreement.
We call upon the beloved villagers for continuous support to the effort of the formation of Good Will Committee and for resumption of the dialogue from both parties.
We also call upon the Government Authority to initiate measures to prevent taking laws in one own hand and ensure security, safety and peaceful environment in village. The district administration has its obligations and responsibilities to take steps to ensure safety of lives and properties and prevent violence from taking place.
