Exclusive Design and Technical Development Workshop in Coiled Pottery of Manipur

Creations Society for Handicrafts and Goodwill, Chingamakhong, Imphal is organizing 15 days Exclusive Design and Technical Development Workshop in Coiled Pottery of Manipur at Shilheipung-Art & Craft Centre, Leimakhong Mapal, Imphal East District, Manipur, a cultural centre promoted by the organisation.
Cross Cultural Link-theme is a Cross Cultural Design Assimilation and Product Development of pottey by the inviting artisans from Andro Pottery of Thoubal District, Nungbi Pottery of Ukhrul District and Thongjao Pottery of Thoubal District. The workshop began on 3rd of February 2009 and will conclude formally on 17th of February 2009.

A wide range of products are being made during the workhshop like containers, flower vases, Potteries, decorative pieces, etc having both functional and aesthetic essence with the valuable inputs on new designs to match contemporary needs, emphasised the importance of quality, conceptualised and worked with all the artisans using a common theme, explored and improvised using new materials and techniques.
The aim of the programme is to conceive end products in the form of a comprehensive collection, showcase the possibilities of producing contemporary products using traditional skills, and through innovation, help to perpetuate these age old traditions.
The workshop evoked a feeling of friendship, harmony, merging of imagination and creativity, a fusion of cultures in a contemporary ambience.
The new products developed during the workshop will be showcased during the 4th Ecocrafts Bazaar to be held at Shillong in june 2009 and again at Dilli Haat, New Delhi.
Shri W. Geetaranjan Singh, is the design consultant and the workshop is sponsored by Ministry of Textiles, O/o the Development Commissioner(Handicrafts), Government of India.
