Imphal, September 29: Making a clarion call, the United Committee Manipur today said that the opportune time has come to struggle unitedly in the backdrop of the National Highway-39 impasse.

In a statement, the Committee stated that the need of the hour is to stand united and thwart any designs to dilute the agitation even though the agitation has inconvenienced the people.

Lauding the support of the people to the 24 hour general strike called by it from the midnight of September 27 to midnight of September 28, the Committee added that the strike was called to press home the demand to the State and Central Governments for bringing a solution to the NH-39 impasse and provide adequate security to the passengers traveling on the highway.

Acknowledging the faith imposed by the people of the State to the committee, it said that the stage has come for everyone to stand united and take the struggle to a new height so that the goal can be achieved.

The demand for Statehood, inclusion of Manipuri language in the Eight Schedule and the June uprising last year June uprising against the extension of Government of India and NSCN(IM) ceasefire to the State are all achieved by the people's united struggle, it recalled.

In the meantime, a meeting held today at UCM's office with different organizations, resolved to pressurize the Centre and State Governments until the goal is achieved and the culprits involved in the Piphema incident is punished.

While urging for people cooperation in its struggle, it also resolved to launch signature and mass awareness campaign.

Meanwhile, host of organizations, clubs, and associations in separate statements pledged support to UCM's blockade on NH-39 and urged the Central Government to deploy Highway Task Force on NH-39 and 53 which is the lifeline of the State.
