Sensitisation workshop on human trafficking

Imphal, October 25 2008: A one-day sensitisation workshop on trafficking of women and children for various stake-holders was held at the conference hall of Trade Centre, Moreh today.

The inaugural function of the workshop organised jointly by Centre for Development Activities, Wangjing and AMSU Chandel District Committee was attended by SDC Moreh Ph Ibohal Singh as chief guest and MCM president L Imobi Singh as functional president.

State co-ordinator of Childline, Imphal Mala Lisam and Lawyer Irengbam Bikram Singh spoke as resource persons on the topics of 'Concept of trafficking: Scenario of trafficking in Manipur and role of community in preventing trafficking' and 'Legal framework of CSE and trafficking' respectively.

Earlier giving the key note address, secretary of Centre for Development Activities M Sushil Kumar observed that human trafficking is the third biggest crimes in the world today and it has started giving a serious impact on the Manipuri society as well.

In his address as chief guest, SDC Moreh Ph Ibohal pointed out that inspite of being a small State, numerous crimes are taking place in Manipur.

Only a collective effort would be able to fight against these crimes and ensure punishment of the perpetrators.

General secretary of MCM N Inaocha Meitei also spoke at the occasion.
