Imphal, August 21: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has reportedly assured that representatives of All Manipur Nupi Marup and Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup for taking up various developmental works and giving strong instruction to the State Government for utlising the plan amount, which has been allotted this time more than the previous year, judiciously.

Addressing a press conference today, vice president of All Manipur Nupi Marup informed that these assurances were given by the Prime Minister when a delegation of the two women bodies called on him on August 17 at New Delhi to submit memorandum highlighting the problems of the people as a fallout of the ANSAM-sponsored economic blockade as well as that of women vendors of Khwairamband Bazar who have been shifted in the temporary market sheds to pave way for construction of a multi-storeyed market complex.

After studying the contents of the memorandum thoroughly, the Prime Minister gave the assurance of deploying Highway Protection Forces along the National Highways to make the route safe and sound as well as for taking up fitting action against those organisations or individuals who are trying to obstruct free movement of passengers and vehicles along the National Highways, Shakhi informed.

The Prime Minister also disclosed that he had held talks with Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav for speeding up the task of laying railway line to connect Imphal with the rest of the country, Shakhi added.

For solving the problem of insurgency, Shakhi further informed, the Prime Minister said that the doors are wide open for the underground organisations for holding talks.

In view of the unemployment problems being faced by the educated youths and womenfolk, the Prime Minister said that efforts are being made to pass Employment Guarantee Act in the current Parliament session itself besides reservation of 30 percent seats in the Parliament and the State Assembly for women, the woman activist informed.
