Imphal, May 18 2010: The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Imphal Zone has appealed to the Manipur government to bring an amicable solution with the ANSAM and withdraw the economic blockade in the interest of the general public of Manipur.

A public meeting convened by the ZYF, Imphal Zone and attended by the Zeliangrong village authority/pei, churches, youth clubs, scholars, intellectuals, social leaders and people from all works of life from different parts of Manipur valley was held on May 16 at Majorkhul community hall, Imphal.

The meeting after a prolong deliberation and minute discussion pertaining to the blockade, counter blockade, counter blockade and the present volatile situation in the state.

Considering the need of hour was to maintain peaceful co-existence among the different communities, the meeting adopted some declaration to be observed and implement in principle by the Zeliangrong villages, a statement of the ZYF, Imphal Zone signed by its adm secretary, P Hounilung.

Among others the meeting adopted to maintain peace and tranquility in every Zeliangrong localities as well as not to spread rumours or flare up communal tension or should not indulge in any policy or activity that could insult or hurt the interest or other communities, the statement said.

To check and control of sale of local liquor vendors and fixed time limit at 7 pm, to organise and convene series of public meetings/discussion/consultation by ZYF and not to leave homesteads and head for hill districts upon false alarm sounded from certain quarters and under the prevailing situation of uncertainty was adopted in the meeting, the statement added.

The public meeting also observed two minute silence for the departed souls of two students who were killed in the stand off with the security force at Mao gate.
