Family cries foul over killing, refuses to take body

Imphal, February 16: Crying foul over the killing of Soram Roji s/o Kamini of Kangpokpi Bazar by Imphal East Police Commandos last night, his family members have refused to take back the body.

Imphal East Police Commandos claimed to have shot dead Roji during an alleged encounter near the bank of Imphal river at Minuthong under Porompat Police Station last night.

According to family members Roji got married recently and had gone to ask for returning the money borrowed from him from one Anthony of Khurai yesterday morning.

However, Anthony claimed that after the visit Roji left from his house in time.

Roji's body is still lying at the mortuary of RIMS and a JAC is likely to be formed after a public meeting tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the two persons who were shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Beitumching Yembunglok under Sapermeina Police station on February 14 last have been identified by their respective families and the same handed over after post-mortem at RIMS mortuary today.

The victims were Lourembam Sitol (25) s/o Birendra of Torbung Mamang Leikai and Elangbam Rabi (28) s/o Ibopishak of Elangkhangpokpi Maning Leikai.

Both of them were reportedly working as a private security guards of some company in Bangalore.

On the other hand, the identity of the person who was found shot dead by unidentified gunmen near the community pond of Irengbam Awang Leikai under Nambol Police Station last night has been established as one Thokchom Hekendra (38) of Heinoubok Makha Leikai.

He was said to be a mentally deranged person.

The corpse has also been handed over to his family members after post-mortem examination at RIMS today.

Meanwhile, the body of Md Zuma Khan alias Lukhoi of Sora Mamang Leikai who was also found shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Irengband under Kakching Police Station on February 14 has been taken away by his bereaved family members after post-mortem at Lilong PHC today.

Body disposal: The bullet riddled body of a man recovered by the 10 Assam Rifles from Changpi Khullen under Chakpikarong Police Station on February 13 would be handed over to Imphal Municipality for disposal if no body claim the same within February 19 .

The body of the man which is still lying at the mortuary of RIMS is said to be of wheatish complexion with medium height and pierced ear lobs.

He was found wearing two rings on his left little finger, a black T-shirt with white track on the neck, a camouflage jacket and grey trousers.

The post-mortem of the body was conducted at Lilong PHC after the Assam Rifles personnel handed over the same to the Chakpikarong Police Station on February 14 .
