Lok Janshakti set to field 60 candidates

Imphal, December 10: National general secretary of Lok Janshakti Party Mira Chakraborti has expressed confidence that the Manipur State unit of the party and other like minded political parties would be able to form the next Government after the forthcoming election to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

Talking to mediapersons at the conference hall of State Guest House here, Mira Chakraborti who arrived at Imphal today to oversee the preparation being made in connection with forthcoming Assembly election, said Lok Janshakti party is considering fielding its candidates to contest for all the 60 seats.

Mira said party is confident of winning atleast 20 seats and formed the next Government along with other like-minded political parties.

If Lok Janshakti Party is in power it would pay more attention on development of education, transport, communication, water supply, electricity, health and sanitation apart from taking up various welfare programmes for the poor people.

Responding to a question on the problem of insurgency, Mira said peace and harmony among the different groups of people is essential in a democratic country.

With this view in mind, Lok Janshakti Party would also try its level best in resolving the problem of insurgency not only in Manipur but also in other parts of North East region through political dialogues.

At the same time, Lok Janshakti party would ensure that the integrity and unity of the State remain intact, Mira pledged.

While announcing that the party supports the agitation being launched by Irom Chanu Sharmila for withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, Mira said that Lok Janshakti would never go against the aspiration of the people.

State party unit president Thangkhangin Ngaihte charged the Congress led ruling SPF Government with political bickering and sacrifice the interest of the people living in the hills.

The development in the hill area has also taken a back-seat as the Government has been playing politic like indulging in business.
