DPP releases names of 17 candidates

Imphal, January 09: The newly floated Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) today released its first phase candidate list announcing the names of 17 persons including a woman who will contest the State Assembly election on the party tickets.

The lone woman candidate, Oinam Bimola will contest the poll in Oinam Assembly constituency.

The male candidates include RK Anand (Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC), H Nabashyam (Singjamei), P Premananda (Thongju), N Biren (Heingang), P Kullachandra (Keisamthong), N Sanajaoba (Bishnupur), K Shyam (Langthabal), A Dipti (Jiribam), N Tombiraj (Uripok), L Saratchandra (Khudrakpam), Ph Chandra (Andro), Dr N Sarat (Thangmeiband), Dr Th Meinya (Konthoujam), M Nilamani (Lamlai), Md Ismail (Lilong) and K Jadumani (Nambol).

The party will be announcing another list within 4-5 days.

Speaking to reporters, DPP president Kh Mani ruled out pre-poll alliance with any party and said the party will carry out seat adjustments with other parties other than the Congress and NDA partners.

The party is trying to publish its manifesto before January 20.Safeguarding territorial integrity, protecting human rights, revocation of POTO and other black laws from the State and keeping uniformed land laws for both hill and valley will be the highlights of the manifesto, he said.

Predicting that no party will be able to get absolute majority in the election, he said that the issue of DPP joining in Government formation might come up on the basis of issues.
