DPP stresses on hill, plain reconciliation

Imphal, January 06: The president of the recently floated Democratic People's Party, Khaidem Mani, has emphasized the need for reconciliation among the people of the hills and valley of Manipur to ensure the emotional integration of the state.

Addressing a political convention of the DDP at the Gandhi Memorial Hall today, Khaidem Mani urged all sections to forget and forgive, to strengthen mutual bonds and preserve the proud tradition of co-existence.

Mani also emphasized the urgent need for ushering in a new Manipur, and to keep undisturbed the territorial integrity of the state for all time.

He also reiterated that the party would fight tooth and nail against the draconian laws, which he said had robbed the charm of existence in Manipur.

Mani further pledged that the DPP will work for an economically sound Manipur and would strive for maximum autonomy.

No stone would be left unturned while striving for the best where the people of Manipur will have equal status in the development process, he stated.

He said strong emphasis would be paid to agro-based industry and tourism, and expressed himself in favor of relaxing the restricted area permit system while re-imposing the inner line permit system.

RK Anand, general secretary of the party, emphasized the need for promotion of human rights security and for review of the centre-state relationship.

He also criticized the state home department for allegedly failing to forward the resolutions taken by the state Assembly for preservation of Manipur's territorial integrity.
