GoI cheating Manipuris : AMUCO

Imphal, February 03 2009: The recent disclosure made by Assam Rifles higher-ups about presence of designated camps for NSCN (IM), one each in Senapati, Tamenglong and Chandel districts, in the wake of the Siroy stand off was a clear indication that the Government of India is cheating the people of Manipur, asserted the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation.

Reminding about the bloody civil movement of June, 2001 against extension of ceasefire between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) without territorial limits which cost lives of 18 people, AMUCO recalled that the Government of India retracted and declared that the ceasefire would not be enforced in Manipur after deleting the words "without territorial limit" from the Bangkok Declaration of June 14, 2001 on July 27 of the same year.

Although AR's stance that no NSCN (IM) camp should exist at Siroy appeared to be in the interest of the State's integrity, AR troops have been indulging in rampant extra judicial killings on daily basis in different parts of the State, particularly in the valley, it alleged.

Saying that different political leaders of the Government of India have been saying one thing in Manipur while making contradictory statements in a neighbouring State of the North East with regard to the issue of Manipur's territorial integrity, AMUCO accused the Government of India of conspiring to create animosity among the peoples of the North East.

While the State Government remains a silent spectator, unable to speak or do anything on the Siroy stand-off as if Siroy is not a part of Manipur and that the issue is beyond the jurisdiction of its administration, the paramilitary force has been acting on its own, making their statements freely.

Such conduct of the security forces during the Siroy stand-off clearly demonstrated that the Government of India is imposing a virtual military rule in Manipur, AMUCO inferred.

The people of Manipur have no reason to keep faith in New Delhi to safeguard territorial integrity of the State.

However, there is no change to the collective decision of the people, adopted on several occasions against disintegration of Manipur, AMUCO asserted.

It further called upon the people to be always vigilant and prepared to battle any challenge to the integrity of Manipur.
