Imphal, September 01 2010: For deployment of National Highway Protection Force along National Highways 39, 53 and 150, which connect Manipur with the rest of the country, the State Government has placed a proposal before the Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to a reliable source, the Home Department of the State Government submitted the proposal to the Home Ministry a week ago.

Deployment of National Highway Protection Force has been proposed to prevent frequent imposition of blockade along these National Highways and check extortion activities.

It may be noted here that the State Government has been earmarking Rs 1 crore in its budget every year for implementation of Highway Patrolling Scheme in Manipur.

The Union Home Ministry has also been in favour of deploying Highway Protection Force.

Meanwhile, 36 Imphal bound loaded trucks, 9 oil tankers, 2 bullet tankers and 12 light vehicles were escorted by CRPF through NH-39 today while 208 empty trucks, 14 oil tankers and 8 bullet tankers have left from Imphal.
