Bus fired at, 2 killed in follow up action

Imphal, August 29: A passenger bus was fired upon by some unidentified armed persons at Oksu under Lamlai police station at about 10 am today.

Even though there was no human casualty, the bus plying on the Imphal-Maphou route suffered damages on some parts of its body.

Moreover, one of the tyres on the rear wheel burst as it was hit by bullets.

The incident occurred as the bus travelling from Maphou to Imphal with passengers approached Oksu.

There two unidentified persons riding a motorcycle fired some rounds at the bus before fleeing.

Police have registered a case, said police sources.

The bus belongs to one Laishram Inaocha (30) of Lamlai Moirang Purel.

On receiving information about the incident, troops of 39 Assam Rifles and Imphal East police commandos rushed towards Khurai Tinsid road on being briefed that the attackers may have taken that route.

As the combined force were at Khurai-Tinsid road, an encounter ensued between them and some unidentified militants today at about 7.50 pm in which two suspected UG cadres were killed, said a police source.

The team recovered one 9 mm pistol with 5 live rounds and another 9 mm pistol with 6 live rounds.

A demand letter of KCP (MC) was also recovered.

The bodies are at RIMS morgue.
