Imphal, May 29 2010: Suspected blockade supporters, in the early hour of Saturday, burnt down a freight truck at a place about 2 km away from Awang Khul on the stretch of the NH-53 towards Jiribam, official source said.

The cement laden truck bearing registration no.MN 04A-0745 was set on fire by the miscreants in the morning, at about 4.30 pm.

The truck was stranded there due to a mechanical defect even though it headed Imphal from Jiribam with security escort yesterday.

Official reports said that in the arson, the truck loaded with 360 bags of cement was badly damaged.

The report also identified the driver of the truck as one Chanambam Shyamo of Mayang Imphal Chabungbam Company and owned by one Shyamkumar of Thangmeiband, Imphal.
