Imphal, February 24: Contending that voters in polling station nos.57/5, 57/7, 57/8 and 57/9 of Henglep Constituency in Churachandpur district could not exercise their franchise in free and fair manner yesterday, CPI candidate of the Constituency and former MP Kim Gangte has lodged a compliant to the Election Commission seeking repoll in these polling stations.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at Irabot Bhavan here today, Kim Gangte said voters in these polling stations were not allowed to cast their votes in favour of the candidate of their choice.

None of my polling agents were allowed entry inside the polling stations though the forms have been taken and kept inside the stations, she said, adding that owing to threat and intimidation, all the polling agents have gone hiding and cannot get in touch with them.

She further said that there was nothing democratic in the manner of the conducting the polling in these area as a handful of people have cast all the votes instead of exercising the franchise by the voters themselves.

Moreover, Kim alleged, one day before the night of the election was held on February 23, armed persons have come to threaten the village chiefs and representatives of youth organisation against votings in favour of candidates other than that of their choice.

The armed persons have also threatened with dire consequence if 90 percent of the voters was not secured by the candidate of their choice.

Because of such threats, many of the voters have been restraint from come out and exercise their franchise, she further contended.
