Imphal, July 21: Alleging that the NSCN (IM) was involved in damaging the Irang Bridge yesterday in connection with the ongoing ANSAM sponsored economic blockade, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) observed that unity of every section of the Manipuri society has become even more essential to defeat evil forces.

Regardless of involvement of either NSCN (IM) activists or ANSAM volunteers in the condemnable act, snapping of food supply route in pursuit of an agenda can neither be described as a democratic movement nor tolerable, expressed the Council.

It further charged ANSAM/NSCN (IM) of trampling upon the Constitutional provision of right to live by dismantling the bridge and added that National Human Rights Commission and the Indian Parliament need to take the matter seriously as such conduct reflects activities carried out by terrorist group/s.Also casting doubt on the sincerity of Assam Rifles authorities and personnel, the Council questioned how the AR will explain its position on the allegation of trucks being set ablaze under its very nose and the Irang bridge incident which is located near an AR post.

HERICOUN regretted that organisations in Manipur are engaged in activities to upstage one another rather than Work in tandem to defeat destructive forces as the furrent situation demands.

On the other hand, accusing the Central and State Governments for the current imbroglio, AMU-CO cited lack of commitment on the part of the State authorities resulting in destruction of the Irang bridge.

Expressing strong resentment at the State Government's inability to bring ANSAM representatives to the negotiating table to end the current impasse, AMUCO regretted that instead of strengthening age-old brotherly ties amongst various communities declaration of June 18 at State Integrity Day and subsequently State holiday had become bone of contention and created chasm between sections of the society.

Observing that unity among the people of North Eastern region is the only way out to overcome subjugation under rule of respective Indian Governments AMUCO fervently appealed to organisations concerned to refrain from activities that could encourage the Centre enact its divide and rule role.

Amuco also informed of its ongoing campaign to preserve emotional and territorial integrity covering Konthoujam Maning Kabui village, Sawombung Kabui today.
