Imphal, June 18 2010: Miscreants suspected to be supporters of economic blockade on the national highways set on fire a security barrack stand on the side of the NH-39 at Taphou Naga village in Senapati district in the wee hour today, police said.

The security barrack where no security personnel detailed at the time of occurring the incident was burnt down by miscreants around 2 to 3 am of today.

In the arson the ceiling and other wooden parts of the RCC building have been damaged, the police report said.

Today's arson incident was the second instant on which security barrack constructed on the side of the Imphal-Mao section of the NH-39 was burnt down since the economic blockade imposed by ANSAM intensified in combination with the people protest against the ban on entry of NSCN (IM) leader Muivah in the state.

Another empty security barrack at Khongnem of Senapati district was set on fire around the first week of May last.

The arson of the barrack was amid the state government planned to deploy CRPF personnel on the section of the highway sent by the Centre for opening the highway from economic blockade.

Centre has sent six companies of CRPF including one women company to deploy on selected sensitive locations on the stretch of the highway for security to the highway travelers and truckers.

The deputy commissioner of Senapati district has been reportedly asked to identify the sensitive areas where security personnel need to be deployed.

The women company who arrived at Imphal yesterday has left for Senapati district headquarters today, an official report said adding that other companies also started arriving at Senapati.
