Imphal, February 13: Firing at the residence of a political worker of MPP candidate from Keishamthong AC Laisom Ibomcha on the night of February 9 and burning down of his �welcome gate� installed at Keishamthong Laisom Leirak Machin last night by unidentified miscreants have been strongly condemned by the MPP Keishamthong Election Committee and the candidate himself.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at the Keishamthong Laisom Leirak residence of the candidate today, Ibomcha charged that the unidentified gunmen broke down and barged into house of MPP worker Leimapokpam Sitol at Nganappithong Mapan on the night of February 9.They not only threatened with dire consequences if any of the family members campaign for MPP candidate but also fired several rounds creating panic among the people of the area.

While disclosing that there have also been instances in which some INC workers allegedly stopped the vehicles of the MPP workers and threaten them on February 11, Ibomcha added that the unidentified persons had also planted a bomb near the residence of Leimapokpam Sitol yesterday at around 2.30 pm with the intention of generating fear psychosis among the people.

In continuation of the attack on MPP, unidentified miscreants also set on fire the welcome gate of the MPP erected at Keishamthong Laisom Leirak Machin, Ibomcha said.

Such acts of violence and intimidation are really unfortunate and should be condemned by all the political parties, he said, adding that everyone should extend their co-operation and support toward ensuring smooth conduct of the democratic process of election.

The MPP candidate has also flayed the alleged inaction of the Police Department despite having reported the incidents at the police stations concerned.

Meanwhile, to express condemnation over the incidents of firing and planting bomb at the Nganappithong residence of Laimapokpam Sitol and causing fear among the people of the area, a large number of womenfolks of the area participated in a Wakat Meepham held near Nganappithong today.

The protestors denounced any act of violence and intimidation during the protest demonstration.
