UNC presents case before Sushma

Imphal, July 09 2010: A Naga delegation led by the United Naga Council (UNC) apprised BJP leader Sushma Swaraj to exert pressure on the UPA Government to make an alternative arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur at the earliest as 'demanded by the totally vitiated existing situation'.

The Naga delegation informed the BJP leaders the recently conducted District Council elections being declared 'null and void' by the Naga people, and that the District Councils will not be allowed to exist and function in Naga areas.

"Therefore, the Government of India must cancel the ADC elections unconditionally," contended the Naga delegation to the BJP leader.

The Naga delegation also appreciated the BJP lead erstwhile NDA government for formally recognizing the 'uniqueness of Naga history and situation'.

The Naga delegation then informed the BJP team regarding the July 1 Naga Peoples' Convention (NPC) where the Nagas declared to sever all political ties with the state government of Manipur.

Finally, the Naga delegation apprised the central BJP team to press New Delhi for brining an honourable and acceptable settlement pertaining to Indo-Naga issue.

A lengthy memorandum was also submitted to the central BJP team by Naga frontal organisations jointly signed by S Milan and A Ashohrii of the UNC, M Dili of the Naga Peoples Organisation (NPO), Ningthaodai Gonmei of the Zeliangrong Interim Body (ZIB), Solomon Ningshen of the Tangkhul Naga Long and ST Nunglung of the Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation (CNPO).
