Imphal, January 08: A meeting of returning officers for the forthcoming Assembly elections was held today at the secretariat south block conference hall to chart out election duties.

The meeting, presided over by the chief election officer, Manipur DS Poonia, was attended by the nine ROs of the various districts as well as the returning officers for Kangpokpi and Jiribam, according to a source.

The meeting discussed among other things the holding of poll rehearsals, the cooperation to be offered to the election observers dispatched by the ECI, and the problems faced by ROs in earlier elections, and how to avoid them.

The meeting also discussed provision of accommodation for the election observers and deployment of adequate security.

With regard to security coverage of booths, candidates and observers, the ROs are to contact the concerned SPs the meeting decided.
