Imphal, April 06: Under a specific policy, the Government of India has been promoting a proxy war in Manipur by entering into Suspension of Operation agreement with some armed groups.

This proxy war is severely exacerbating law and order situation in the State, alleged UCM president K Langamba.

Langamba was speaking at the 51st foundation anniversary of Meetei Society Churachandpur at Khuga Tampak Awang Laibung today.

He asserted that there is every reason to take the organisations which are indulging themselves in proxy war and communal politics as enemies of the people.

As such, all kinds of proxy war and communal politics should be stopped immediately.

Stating that the volatile law and order situation is not the only problem of the State, the UCM president asserted that politicians of the State should identify all the outstanding issues besetting the State and settle the same through democratic negotiation.

Quoting reported statements of the political and military leaders of India that the insurgency problem in Manipur cannot be solved by military means, Langamba urged upon the State leaders to make necessary arrangement so that the insurgency problem can be solved under international laws.

Observing that the people of Manipur have been enduring severe hardships because of factionalism among some insurgent groups, he asserted that there is no guarantee that this may not result in unwanted situation when the people launch a movement unable to bear the misery caused by factionalism any longer.

While appealing to the UG factions to unite together, the UCM president asked the factions to stop the revolt if they are unable to unite together.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest which was attended by representatives of the 15 units of the Meetei Society, Social Welfare Minister asserted that the State remains backward because of a large number of people who go after easy money.

He called upon the people to cultivate proper work culture.

The foundation day anniversary observance was also attended by SP Churachandpur S Manglemjao, president of Kuki Inpi Manipur Maipao Haokip and president of Meetei Society Churachandpur Yaima Yumnam as presidium members.
