Imphal, April 24: Taking a serious note of the bomb blast inside the high security Babupara area today as well as the discovery of the bomb fitted rickshaw near the Pologround, the Cabinet which met today from 2.30 pm till 4 pm deferred its earlier stated agenda of discussing the work progress of Khuga Dam and Thoubal Dam and instead concentrated on the law and order situation.

After minutely discussing the fragile situation, the meeting decided that the land of private pattadars from the office/bungalow of Imphal West at Babupara till Sanjenthong on the Northern side would be taken over by the Government after paying the requisite compensation.

The meeting also decided to ban the entry of vehicles, including two wheelers at Khwairamband bazar, setting up separate parking slots as well as to broaden the roads from Khoyathong to Keishamthong.

No rooms will also be given to road side vendors inside Khwairamband bazar.

Prior to the latest development, the Cabinet had decided that the meeting would focus on Khuga Dam and Mapithel Dam and though no detailed discussion was held, it was decided that the Chief Secretary would be handed over the charge of the missing funds for Khuga Dam dating back to 1983, when only Rs 9 crores was utilised out of the Rs 22 crores released for the same.

The compensation for Mapithel Dam was also discussed and as per the demand of the Mapithel Area Development Committee it was decided that the payment would be made to those who missed out on the earlier compensation as per an All Manipur policy for land compensation.

The earlier compensation was paid according to the agreement reached in 1993 and the rest who did not receive the compensation then would be given their share as per the existing rules.

The work on the dam will however go on till it is finalised, agreed the Cabinet.
