Imphal, December 20: The Manipur People's Party has denounced the laying of the foundation stone of Tipaimukh Dam by some Union Ministers led by Minister of Power Sushil Kumar Shinde against the strong opposition raised by the people.

If MPP is elected to power, the environmentally disastrous project would be scrapped, stated MPP leader Dr Nimaichand Luwang.

Speaking at the one day MPP political conference at Kakwa Huidrom Leikai, MPP vice-president Dr Nimaichand Luwang asserted that the people of Manipur as well as MPP are against the Tipaimukh project conceived to control floods in Barak valley of Assam.

He said that all the agreements and activities for construction of the Tipaimukh project would be rescinded and stopped in case MPP gets elected to power in the forthcoming elections.

He further claimed that if the regional party comes to power, MPP would fight to exclude the possible dismemberment of Manipur from the agenda of the ongoing peace talk between the Government of India and NSCN (IM).

The unification of regional parties was necessitated to counter the scheme plotted by vested interest groups to elect some MLAs bent on disintegrating Manipur in the upcoming elections, Dr Nimaichand disclosed.

Claiming that the draconian AFSPA 1958 would be repealed from the State within a month without waiting for consent of the Union Government provided MPP is elected to power, he pledged that the posts of the Chief Secretary and the DGP would be given to Manipuris.

Alleging that there is no capable leader in the Congress party including the CM, he cautioned that Manipur may break up under the Congress led Govt.Taking part in the conference, MPP president Dr L Chandramani observed that question of 'two Manipur' arose after the establishment of the State Govt led by Congress party.

He attributed the intensified insurgency movement to the situation where people from outside the State have been put at the helm of the State's affairs.

If the Cong party has the moral courage to revoke the memorandum submitted to the PM on May 27 last year signed by 11 Naga MLAs led by Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing, then only the people of Manipur would believe the claim of Congress party that it would safeguard the integrity of Manipur.

Charging that the Congress party sold away the sovereignty of Manipur, O Joy asserted that Congress party is the adversary of Manipur.

Nevertheless, he pledged that MPP would stand firm for the integrity of Manipur.

The Govt (MPP's) may fall or he may lost his position as MLA but the draconian AFSPA 1958 would be repealed at any cost, declared O Joy.
