RIMS inducts three mobile medical team

Imphal, August 19: With the spectre of epidemic looming large during the post flood period, RIMS authority has inducted three mobile medical teams to join the already operational 13 teams put into service by the State Health Department.

The 13 medical teams which were put into service since August 14 have been treating the flood affected people at Imphal East and West, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.

Disclosing this, Health Director, Dr Ch Chandramani said that of the 13 teams, 6 are discharging duties at Imphal East and West, 4 at Thoubal district covering Lilong, Yairipok, Thoubal Athokpam, Kakching and Sngnu while the remaining three teams have been pressed into service at Bishnupur district covering, Moirang, Kumbi, Thanga and Ningthoukhong.

Besides this the RIMS authority has today provided three such mobile teams, he said and added that the teams are working round the clock to aid the flood victims.

Though the mobile teams sometimes face the problem of medical shortage this has not hindered them in discharging their duties, said the Health Director.

Above this measure, all the Chief Medical Officers have been instructed to make sure that medical-aid is available to all the flood victims without any inconveniences.

Chandramani further said that their main focus is to fight or prevent the outbreak of any epidemic in the post flood scenario.

The Health Department has also approached the State Relief Commissioner to sanction Rs 6 lakhs for meeting the daily requirements of the mobile teams.

The Health Minister along with the Health Director have inspected and studied the public health scenario at various flood affected areas including Lilong, Kakching, Hiyanglam, Wabagai, Samurou and other parts of Thoubal district.

Apart from the mobile teams the other health centres have been taking care of the flood victims, he added.

Meanwhile, the rescue operation launched by the Assam Rifles under Major S Srivastava at Lilong area concluded yesterday.

The Assam Rifles team which launched the rescue operation managed to evacuate 1000 people from the marooned villages of Lilong, said a source and added that the rescue operation was started from August 15.The State Fire Service Department too joined the rescue operation.
