Imphal, January 18: CPI general secretary AB Bardhan today stated that his party�s top political objective is to defeat the candidates of NDA partners BJP, Samata Party and MSCP in the forthcoming Assembly elections.

The CPI leader arrived on a two day visit to the State in connection with the elections yesterday.

Speaking to reporters at the Irabat Bhavan this morning, Bardhan charged that the political turmoil in the State was the handiwork of the BJP and its partners.

Stating that the June 18 incident which saw the loss of 18 lives resulted due to the selfish motives of the then MLAs, he said the seventh State Assembly was also dissolved after the MLAs resorted to unchecked defections.

As NDA was responsible for all these, its partners should be defeated in the coming lections, he added.

He also said the electorates should fully extract the benefits of democracy, which had become a farce in the State from the impending poll.

Expressing strong reservation at the Government move to shut down corporations, the CPI leader said that the move will only increase unemployment problem in the state.

This will also give extra burden to the next popular ministry coming up in the State.
