Imphal, March 01: Irked with the 'soft approach' of the Government towards the guilty Thoubal police commandos involved in the torture and molestation of M Naobi Devi, Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has announced its decision of boycotting all the MLAs and Ministers from any function related to the University with immediate effect from today.

The boycott stand of MUSU would remains until and unless the guilty police commandos have been booked and given befitting punishment, president of the students' body Kh Ashokumar made it clear in a statement.

Ashokumar asserted that suspension of the immoral police commandos involved in the despicable act is not what the people want, rather it would invite more intense agitation from the people.

The crime committed by the police commandos on the innocent girl can never be condoned and the Government should not be under the impression that the suspension order would cool down the anger of the people, the student leader said, and questioned whether the Government would have adopted the same sort of approach had the victim been one of the daughters of the MLAs or the Ministers.

MUSU also come out strongly against the attitude of the police commandos threatening to laid down their arms for penalising some of their guilty colleagues for their inexcusable misconduct.

The lost prestige of the commandos might have been regain if the threat had been for rustication of their guilty colleagues from service and lodging them in jail, the student' body added.

There has also no let up in the public outrage against the misconduct of the Thoubal Police Commandos on Naobi with more and more social organisations demanding befitting punishment be given to the guilty personnel.

Momnu Eerikkhombi Lup (Meekhol), Kanglei Chanura Chaokhat Lamching Lup (Kangleichal), Apunba Nupi Lup (Lairenkabi), Women Action for Development, etc called for joint effort to fight for justice and said the action of the police commandos on Naobi is akin to committing a crime against all the women in Manipur.
