Imphal, April 05: Protest demonstrations against the alleged torture and sexual assault of Maibam Naobi Chanu by Thoubal Police Commandos in their custody continue unabated with womenfolk organising Wakat Meephams at different parts of the State.

At the community hall of Leirongthel Pitra, the birth place of Naobi, a large number of people today converged and staged a Wakat Meepham.

Eight different resolutions were adopted to the effect of intensifying the ongoing agitation being spearheaded by Apunba Lup.

The resolutions include extension of unflinching support to the Apunba Lup in fighting for the cause of Naobi, befitting punishment to the guilty police commandos, resignation of CM and his Council of Minister, termination of Thoubal CJM Mrs Kim from service, boycott of the forthcoming Assembly election if the Government fails to do justice in connection with Naobi's case, etc.

The massive protest demonstration was jointly organised by Apunba Lup, Leirongthel Pitra Youth Defence Organisation, Leirongthel Pitra meira Paibi, Nongbrang Meira Paibi, Nungpokpi Meira paibi, Leirongthel Meira Paibi, Laikhong Meira Paibi, Yambem Meira Paibi, Ningel Meira Paibi, Chandrakhong Meira Paibi, Phanjakhong Meira Paibi, Apunba Khunai Lamjing Meira Lup, AMOVA, Eastern Club Development Organisation, etc.

At Langmeidong Bazar, members of Langmeidong Meira Paibi Lup and Langmeidong Nisha Bandh today staged a Wakat Meepham expressing solidarity with Naobi and demanding punishment of the guilty Police Commandos.

At Thounaojam Yangdong, the womenfolk of the area staged a similar protest demonstration giving a clarion call to the Government either to punish the culprits or to resign immediately.

Wakat Meepham was also held at Ibudhou Ibendhou Haraobung ground today.

The protest demonstration organised under the aegis of Nungthilchaibi Mahila Mandal, Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai was attended by a large number of people.

The Apunba Nupi Lup of Keirao Bitra had also reportedly staged a Wakat Meepham at Panthoibi Keithel Irilbung from 9 am to 4 pm demanding punishment of the guilty police commandos.

Meanwhile, Ningombam Nupija Yaipha Seva Marup has strongly condemned the conduct of the Thoubal Police Commandos and demanded fitting punishment as the guilty Commandos.
