CPI(M) to support Dr Nara, Holkhomang Haokip

Imphal, April 05: With the main objective of defeating BJP candidates in the forthcoming 14th Lok Sabha elections, the Communist Party of India -Marxist (CPI-M) will support Dr M Nara of the CPI in the Inner seat and NCP's Holkhomang Haokip in the Outer, said CPI-M State secretary M Shamu during a press conference at the party office today.

Shamu also informed that as per April 1 State Committee decision on the matter a 50 member Election Campaign Committee of the CPI-M has been constituted with former Director of College Development Committee Y Mohendro as chairman and Salam Indubushan as working president.

Taking part in the press briefing Mohindro asserted that due to necessity of preserving and promoting secularism to safeguard multi-culture identity of the land defeat of communal forces is essential.

Chipping in Salam Indubushan informed that the election campaign of the CPI-M will be kick started from April 9.Indubushan termed as unfortunate when his comment was sought on the ban imposed on candidates and political parties by underground outfits.

Asserting that attempts should not be made to scuffle democracy he also contended that right o contest or not rest with the decision of the Election Commission.

RSP holds back decision: Despite the agreement of the Left parties, Revolutionary Socialist Party, Manipur State has kept its final decision at abeyance on extending support to Dr M Nara Singh, CPI's candidate for Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha election until signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard between the parties and the candidate concerned.

RSP's stand on holding back its decision has been taken in tune with the party principles and to ensure that the faith reposed on the party by the people is not belied, RSP State unit secy P Rajen Meitei said in a statement today.

RSP would be making its final decision on extending support to CPI candidate known to the people after signing the MoU, he added.

Expressing regret over the rejection of nomination papers of the party nominee Thangkhangin for Outer seat, Rajen said that if the nomination had been accepted, the coming LS election would have provided an opportunity to teach a big lesson to other political parties.
